WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA?

Postpartum Doulas are professionally trained and certified caregivers that provide emotional and physical support to new mothers and families at a critical time. Doulas act as a guide, helping parents transition into their new roles by providing:

• Breastfeeding support

• Newborn education to help parents achieve a better understanding of their newborn’s needs

• Specialized help and care for preemies and multiples

• Sleep support

• Light housework

Did you know?  Postpartum doulas successfully reduce the occurrence of postpartum depression, while facilitating successful breastfeeding and parent-infant bonding.  Postpartum Doulas are a support to new families who have recently given birth or adopted.

IS BECOMING A DOULA RIGHT FOR YOU?

As a Certified Postpartum Doula (CPD) you can:

• Work for an agency or on your own
• Earn wages ranging from $15-$25/hour
• Partner with industry leaders
• Enjoy a flexible schedule
• Participate in a growing field with many opportunities

The program includes an intensive five-evening workshop, one-on-one mentoring, shadow shifts with certified doulas, pro-bono shifts, CPR training and a certifying exam. Tuition covers the complete certification program with all class materials included.

Upon certification you’ll have the knowledge, skills and in-home experience needed to begin a successful and meaningful career as a doula!

Workshops are held locally, in the twin cities suburb of Bloomington, MN. We welcome local, national and international participants. Our student coordinator can help with logistics for those who are attending from outside the Mpls/St Paul area. We have trained postpartum doulas from around the United States and world-wide.

One of the unique elements of Modern Doula Education’s certification program is the Student Coordinator. At the end of the workshop, the student coordinator will work with each student through each step of certification. We provide information for shadow shifts with current, working doulas, then connect our students with pro bono families to complete their practical hours. Each student will complete 4 pro bono shifts (2 four hour shifts with 2 different families). The student coordinator helps each student with their individual needs to help ensure completion of certification!
