WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA

Postpartum Doulas are professionally trained and certified caregivers that provide emotional and physical support to new mothers and families at a critical time. Doulas act as a guide, helping parents transition into their new roles by providing:

• Breastfeeding support

• Newborn education to help parents achieve a better understanding of their newborn’s needs

• Specialized help and care for preemies and multiples

• Sleep support

• Light housework

Rachel Brown, RN

Rachel Brown, MA, RN, CLC (she/her), is a Maternal Health and Couples Counselor, Midwife, Registered Nurse, Certified Lactation Counselor, and Army veteran. With over a decade of experience in healthcare and maternal support, Rachel is dedicated to empowering individuals and families through pregnancy, postpartum, and life’s key transitions. Rachel has been a passionate advocate for maternal and family health, bringing a holistic and evidence-based approach to her work. As an instructor with Modern Doula Education, she is committed to mentoring and guiding the next generation of doulas, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide exceptional care. Outside of her professional work, Rachel is a mom to three amazing children and two lively hairless cats. She loves supporting families and birth professionals alike, helping to create strong and nurturing communities.

Tory Kielas-Jensen: Owner & Instructor

Tory Kielas-Jensen, BA, CPD, CLC, CPDT (MDE) – is a Certified Postpartum Doula and Lactation Counselor. She holds a BA in Business Communications and advanced certificates in Community Building. She has been training postpartum doulas since 2010. She continues to support new families in home and guide new families’ postpartum care. Tory owns and operates a postpartum doula agency in Minnesota, and has in-depth knowledge in balancing doula work and running a business. Tory was one of the original developers of the Modern Doula Education curriculum in 2012, and excited to continue to grow the MDE doula family.
